Accuris Networks Highlights Challenges with 3G to Wi-Fi Interworking for Mobile Operators at WBA

WBA Wi-Fi Global Congress - Accuris Networks, an innovator in mobile to Wi-Fi technology interworking, will speak at the WBA Wi-Fi Global Congress in Seoul Korea, to highlight the significant challenges associated with complete interworking between existing 3G networks and Wi-Fi. Accuris Networks, a gold sponsor at the WBA Wi-Fi Global Congress, will talk about the challenges of delivering authentication for smartphones and tablets without cumbersome, insecure username or password logins on any mobile network that combines current and future style Wi-Fi access points.

"While there's lots of talk about offloading and roaming onto Wi-Fi networks, the reality is that seamlessly attaching to Wi-Fi is not yet widespread. Automatic and secure attachment to Wi-Fi networks is complicated by the variety of authentication mechanisms and devices that need to 'roam' seamlessly between mobile broadband networks and Wi-Fi. Mobile operators need not only to interwork SIM and RADIUS authentication, but also need to extend data tunnelling, charging and policy control from mobile to Wi-Fi. This presents serious considerations for any mobile operator," said Sue Rudd, Director Service Provider Analysis, Strategy Analytics. "The holy grail is to make 'Wi-Fi roaming' behave just like roaming across existing mobile networks with call and session continuity."

"Another issue in the Wi-Fi ecosystem is that the Wi-Fi service providers and aggregators also need to work with legacy and newer Wi-Fi technologies to provide service to mobile operators. The required network upgrades will be gradual yet Wi-Fi providers need to immediately provide a transition of services between 3G and Wi-Fi networks," said Aidan Dillon, CTO, Accuris Networks.

Accuris Networks comes from a heritage of working with mobile operators for roaming between CDMA and GSM networks. At WBA Wi-Fi Global Congress, the company will highlight that this expertise lends itself effectively to working with mobile operators to transfer across data policies faultlessly to newer Wi-Fi networks. Accuris Networks will be available at the conference or via email at: sales@accuris-networks.com
