Veripos Launches New Terrestrial Global Positioning Service

Leading global offshore satellite positioning specialists Veripos of Aberdeen have established a comparable high-precision GNSS augmentation service for worldwide terrestrial applications, TerraStar. Specifically developed for land and near shore applications, it provides the highest possible levels of reliable accuracy for users within agricultural, construction, GIS and near shore dredging as well as both land and aerial survey sectors. It was formally launched at this year’s Intergeo Conference & Exhibition in Hannover earlier this month.

Augmenting and sharing Veripos’s existing GNSS positioning infrastructure comprising over 80 worldwide land-based reference stations supported by two fully redundant Network Control Centres (NCCs) in Aberdeen and Singapore and six operating regions, the new service provides year-round global dual-beam coverage transmitted via seven L-band satellites. Two levels of continuous accuracy are available: TerraStar D, a decimetre service utilising purpose-designed Precise Point Positioning (PPP) algorithms and TerraStar M, a metre-level facility instantly available via enabled receivers.

Leading GPS equipment manufacturers Altus and Septentrio have already incorporated TerraStar algorithms into their hardware, allowing users to access the new service’s corrections anywhere in the world. Operators of receivers are therefore able to access positional corrections without any need for additional equipment.

Commenting on introduction of the new TerraStar sevice, Veripos Chief Operating Officer Philip Milne said that it marked a logical progression of the company’s globalised GNSS positioning capability whose clients numbered many of the world’s foremost companies engaged in marine seismic, survey, construction, DP drilling and DP marine activities. The company’s existing operating infrastructure and technical expertise therefore ideally complemented TerraStar with its differing customer base and requirements, he added.

Founded in 1989, Veripos is an independent company operating internationally with a listing on Oslo’ Stock Exchange, Oslo Børs.
