Rebtel's Study Shows US iPhone Owners Are More Satisfied With Their Smartphones Than Android Users
Rebtel, the world’s largest mobile VoIP company after Skype, today announced findings from its first Happiness Survey, which measured mobile device owners’ preferences and satisfaction when using communication and messaging services.
According to the study, nearly 97% of respondents are happy with their smartphones, and tablet owners were even more satisfied with their devices, with nearly 99% of owners claiming to be at least somewhat happy. However some major differences between iPhone and Android owners were apparent.
Satisfaction-level is highest among iPhone customers
The study showed that iPhone owners were much more likely to claim that they were ‘very happy’ with their smartphone with more than 80% indicating so, whereas only 68% of Android owners reported the same. iPhone owners were also far more likely to indicate being much more satisfied with their communications experience compared to before they owned a smartphone than Android owners, 73% vs. 65% respectively, and also claimed to be far more loyal.
When it comes to staying within one’s product ecosystem, iPhone owners are a far more loyal group than Android owners, with more than 8 in 10 (82.7%) also claiming to own an iPad, and only 9.1% claiming to own an Android Tablet. Surprisingly, 46.5% of Android owners also claimed to own an iPad, with only 43.9% of Android owners staying loyal to Android tablets.

Other key takeaways from the survey:
-
Overall, iPhone owners are 15% more likely than Android owners to own a tablet of any kind (iPad, Android, Windows, etc.) with 47.6% of owners claiming to have one, while only 41.3% of Android owners responded similarly.
-
As for usage trends during different times of day, iPhone owners were slightly more likely than Android owners to report using their phone “all the time,” 74.3% to 68.1%.
-
Android owners, on the other hand, were noticeably more likely than iPhone owners to report using their phones most around lunch (4.7% to 1.8%) and in the afternoon (7.7% to 3.7%).
-
Overall, mobile device users as a group are much happier with their current communications experience than before they owned a smartphone, with 93.2% indicating they are at least somewhat more satisfied than before, and 98.8% of tablet owners claiming the same.
“Our first happiness survey shows that advances in communications have created a happier mobile consumer, but there remains a number of key differences in terms of brand loyalty and activity preferences when it comes to tablet and smartphone ownership,” said Rebtel CEO Andreas Bernstrom. “These survey results paint an interesting picture of how and when consumers use their devices, and which activities give them the most satisfaction overall.”
