WiMAX Forum® President Declan Byrne Speaks About the Viability of Wireless Technology


The WiMAX Forum®, an industry-led, not-for-profit organization that certifies and promotes the compatibility and interoperability of broadband wireless products based upon IEEE Standard 802.16, today announced that its president, Declan Byrne, will be speaking on a panel at UTC Telecom 2013. Byrne will be detailing strategies for how utilities can garner significant cost savings and boost operational efficiencies by leveraging WiMAX for numerous applications, including meter reading, smart metering devices, remote asset management and supporting field staff.  

WHAT:  Entitled, "The Wireless Sandbox: A Survey of Wireless Technologies for Utility Applications," this panel session will examine the unique characteristics and applications of DMR, TETRA, WiMAX, LTE, Satellite and Spread Spectrum, and will also discuss how to integrate digital technologies into existing utility communications.

WHY: Based on Utilities Telecom Council's (UTC) research, the burgeoning use of wireless technologies in numerous environments and applications will drive spending, so it will outpace that of other communications technologies within three years. 

WHERE: UTC Telecom 2013,an annual conference designed for information and communication technology (ICT) professionals, is being held in the George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston, Texas, from May 15 – 17, 2013.

WHEN: Tuesday, May 14th from 10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. in Room 320 AB.

WHO: Declan Byrne, president of WiMAX Forum, is a wireless industry expert with more than a decade of experience, holding senior executive positions at small and large wireless companies, including AT&T and Airspan. In addition, Byrne served as a U.S. Diplomat abroad for the Foreign Service for more than 10 years. Byrne is a graduate of the University of San Francisco and is fluent in French, Russian, German and Spanish.
