4G Americas Applauds New FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler
4G Americas, a wireless industry trade association representing the 3GPP family of technologies, including LTE, congratulates Tom Wheeler on the confirmation of his appointment as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Yesterday, the Senate voted to confirm President Obama’s choice of Wheeler to head the agency.
Chris Pearson, President of 4G Americas, said, “President Obama, who recently stated that ‘Expanding the availability of spectrum for innovative and flexible commercial uses, including for broadband services, will further promote our Nation’s economic development,’ made an excellent choice in Tom Wheeler. The FCC makes decisions that affect not only the U.S. marketplace, but also influences mobile broadband deployment throughout the world. Tom Wheeler understands that global scope.”
“With the need for more spectrum to meet the National Broadband objectives that will fuel the wireless industry and the U.S. economy, there are significant opportunities and challenges for the FCC to shape the mobile connected future,” Pearson continued. “Tom Wheeler brings a track record of proven experience to lead the FCC in providing innovative technology policy leadership for years to come. 4G Americas applauds his confirmation as Chairman and we look forward to working with Tom and the other Commissioners.”
