Bandai Networks, HI and Macromedia Announce Partnership to Deliver Macromedia Flash on NTT DoCoMo 505i Series Handsets URL(s):
TOKYO--April 17, 2003--
Companies have been working closely to implement 505i series, soon to be released by NTT DoCoMo, with Macromedia Flash Lite, Macromedia's latest technology
Bandai Networks Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Satoshi Ohshita; hereafter Bandai Networks), HI Corporation (Meguro-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Kazuo Kawabata; hereafter HI) and Macromedia, Inc. (Nasdaq:MACR) today announced the companies have worked closely and achieved implementation to i-mode 505i handsets of Macromedia Flash Lite, the latest technological development based on Macromedia Flash Player.
Macromedia Flash Lite achieves on a mobile phone the functions of Macromedia Flash Player, installed on over 98% of the personal computers around the world. The technology enables rich, interactive content to be displayed on mobile phones.
For the first time, content providers will be able to create rich, interactive content for a mobile phone using the widely used Macromedia Flash MX authoring tool. The parties expect dynamic new content to be created for the i-mode service, further enhancing the mobile-internet user experience. The parties also intend to forge a powerful partnership to deliver and promote Macromedia Flash Lite around the world as technology with tremendous new potential.
"Macromedia is very pleased to have found such strong partners. Bandai Networks and Hi Corporation have been absolutely essential in helping Macromedia make Flash Lite a reality in the 505i handsets," said Peter Meechan, VP Mobile and Devices for Macromedia. "We are confident this relationship will deliver a powerful, well-integrated technology that enables amazing mobile experiences."
"Bandai Networks has undertaken this relationship with great excitement. By working to enable Macromedia Flash Lite in the 505i handsets, we are able to provide a wonderful new platform for i-mode content providers," said Satoshi Ohshita, CEO of Bandai Networks. "We look forward to using this new technology for enhancing our own i-mode content in the coming days."
Capitalizing on its experience in implementing 3D rendering engine software for numerous mobile handset environments, HI Corporation provided exemplary assistance in porting Macromedia Flash Lite to the new i-mode handsets. "We have built a strong business over the years in implementing software for mobile phones. Hi Corporation is proud to draw on this expertise and to assist Macromedia for this new i-mode service feature," said HI Corp President, Kazuo Kawabata.
Available today is the Macromedia Flash developer kit for i-mode. The kit includes guidelines for authoring content, sample Flash content and an updater for Flash MX. The components for the i-mode service ensure that developers can easily author content for the 505i series handsets. Content providers can download the free developer kit today at http://www.macromedia.com/go/devnet_mobile_imode_jp/.
