Pinpoint Launches Fuel Developer Program - Fuel provides a way for developers to generate revenue for their wireless applications
Posted by WDN, August 20, 2001
Pinpoint Networks, Inc., a leading provider of mobile
infrastructure software and applications to wireless carriers, announced today the launch of its Fuel Developer Program.
The Fuel Developer Program was created in order to foster the continued development of useful and compelling
applications for current and 2.5/3G networks. To support the Fuel Developer Program, Pinpoint also announced today a
strategic partnership with WirelessDeveloper.com, as well as an initial set of Premier Technology Partners that includes
Edmunds.com, Funcaster.com, GlobalDining.com, Lasoo.com, Playsoft, and Ruksun.
Benefits for Developers
Pinpoint's Fuel Developer Program is a set of services and technology that provides member application developers and
content partners with distribution, monetization, and support for their wireless applications. This set of services and
technology provides key benefits to developers that include:
--Broad distribution to wireless carriers and millions of potential customers
--Streamlined billing for end-user subscribers
--Technical support
--Reporting to monitor the usage and revenue for active applications
Pinpoint's Developer Program is an integral component supporting its Mobile Applications Platform, Fuel, also
announced today in a separate release. Through Fuel, Pinpoint enables distribution of applications to a growing network of
carrier partners, including Verizon Wireless and Rogers(TM) AT&T(R) Wireless. Fuel also incorporates subscription
management and billing - enabling both the carrier and the application developer to easily deploy value-added applications
to users, and in turn, get paid for those services.
"The Fuel Developer Program was created with application developers in mind - easily facilitating revenue generation
from their wireless applications," said Vickie Morano, director of Pinpoint's Developer Program. "Our program will foster
the creation of new and compelling applications, thereby enabling carriers to customize their wireless data services with our
Fuel Platform to better serve their customers."
Partners
In order to recruit wireless application developers and support the Fuel Developer Program, Pinpoint has formed a
strategic alliance with WirelessDeveloper.com. With an active developer community of more than 15,000 developers,
WirelessDeveloper.com manages developer programs on behalf of wireless platform providers who want to offer a
consistent level of technical support, training, certification and related services to their partner community. Under the
relationship, WirelessDeveloper.com will assist in the marketing, sales, fulfillment, and technical support for Pinpoint's Fuel
Developer Program. (See Related Press Release at: http://www.wirelessdeveloper.com/press/pinpoint.html.)
"We are very excited to provide Pinpoint with a professional developer program," said Konny Zsigo, president of
WirelessDeveloper.com. "Pinpoint's Fuel platform provides the vehicle for developers to distribute and monetize their
content, services, and applications, thereby enabling us to offer a complete solution to our developer community. Since we
have already developed and continue to maintain relationships with thousands of developers, our ability to market Pinpoint's
program will be simultaneously far reaching and tightly focused, while making it possible for Pinpoint to devote more internal
resources on reaching the company's long-term goals."
In addition to the relationship with WirelessDeveloper.com, Pinpoint has formed partnerships with leading wireless
application and content providers. These application and content providers will work with Pinpoint as Premier Technology
Partners to participate in the Fuel Beta Program and provide carriers' subscribers with wireless content and applications.
These partners provide a wide array of content and applications, and include the following companies:
--Edmunds.com - The automotive information leader, Edmunds.com and its wireless products known as Edmunds2Go!
provide vehicle pricing, reviews and other automotive tools and services designed to empower and educate car-shoppers.
--Funcaster.com - A wireless entertainment marketing and distributing company that creates and licenses entertainment
applications to the mobile community.
--GlobalDining.com - Offers the world's largest Internet restaurant directory and a global reservation network with over
500,000 listings and reservations at more than 2,000 top restaurants around the world.
--Lasoo.com - A leading provider of spatial software ASP services and developer of the most efficient geographic search
and directory system on the Internet.
--Playsoft - Provides mobile device users with entertainment applications such as comics, animation, puzzles, and
messages based on the most successful licenses acquired in Hollywood, including the rights to South Park mobile content
acquired from Comedy Central.
--Ruksun - A key player in the development of messaging and connectivity application software for mobile and wireless
devices targeted to consumers and enterprise users.
Participation
Developers interested in joining the Fuel Developer Program can access the registration form from either the Pinpoint or
WirelessDeveloper.com web sites. Joining the program will enable developers to easily distribute applications to mobile
users, which is critical in building an audience for wireless applications and creating monetization opportunities. Pinpoint
provides that critical link by distributing applications to millions of mobile users through their Mobile Applications Platform,
Fuel, to their growing carrier network that includes Verizon Wireless, Terra Lycos (a subsidiary of Telefonica), and Rogers
AT&T Wireless.
