Posted by WDN, August 27, 2001
Wireless Industry Leader Scott Goldman
Brings Wireless Expertise and Track Record to Nation's Preeminent Location-Based Information
Services Provider
go2(R), the leading location-based directory and information services provider and platform for
users of wireless devices in the United States, today announced the appointment of Scott Goldman as president and chief operating officer.
Goldman, who for the past two years served as the first-ever CEO of the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Forum, joins go2 to extend the
company's leadership in location-based services, with particular emphasis on applying go2's patented technology to provide a universal
clearinghouse for location-based information and functionality.
Goldman is a veteran of the wireless communications and Internet industries. As CEO of the WAP Forum, he became a visible and respected
industry spokesman promoting the capabilities and potential of wireless Internet services.
Before joining the WAP Forum he founded WirelessNOW, the wireless industry's first Web-based news service that is now owned and operated
by The Strategis Group. He also founded and ran BuyWireless.com, the first e-commerce site selling wireless phone accessories, pagers and
associated products.
"go2 was attracted to Scott because of his vast wireless experience and passion for how location-based services provide significant
opportunities for the wireless industry," said go2 founder and CEO, Lee Hancock. "The experience and relationships Scott has garnered as the
leader of the WAP Forum and as a prominent member of the wireless communications industry will be a valuable asset to go2's future growth.
"His experience in building businesses and evangelizing new technologies will help further our goals of being the most comprehensive
clearinghouse of accurate, real-time information for the entire wireless, location-based services industry."
Goldman is a world-renowned expert and spokesman for the wireless media and its analysts. He appears frequently on CNN, CNBC, NBC and
CBS, is quoted in the print media and has authored "Ask the Wireless Wizard," a book designed to simplify wireless technology for the lay
reader. As a consultant, he has been involved in evaluating, licensing, building, operating and marketing wireless services in 15 countries.
"I am truly excited by this opportunity. go2 has virtually created the location-based directory services industry and is positioned to provide a
unique set of services to consumers, operators and businesses. The company is the dominant location-based directory application by any metric
-- end-users, usability, comprehensiveness, carrier placement or paid merchant base," stated Goldman.
"go2 offers an extremely efficient and valuable solution to real-world businesses, and I am excited to help this industry-leading company bring
valuable, pervasive location-based information distribution solutions to its customers."
go2 has distribution agreements with a number of major North American carriers. They include Verizon Wireless, Sprint PCS, AT&T, Nextel,
Cingular, Bell Mobility and Telus/Clearnet. It can also be accessed through pager and PDA networks such as Omnisky, yadayada and Palm.
go2's patented location-based information distribution system is focused on the delivery of two key drivers of mobile usage: ease-of-use and
accurate, timely information.
In addition to improving existing yellow-page-like databases, go2 provides real-world merchants with the ability to ensure that all of their basic and
enhanced location-based information is available at any time over any wireless Web-enabled device or service.
This information distribution system provides a previously unavailable method of ensuring that end-users have access to the most comprehensive,
accurate and real-time, location-based information about go2's growing base of blue-chip customers.
go2 also provides the end-user with coupons and information about its customer's current promotions and specials. go2 customers already
include marquee brands such as: Coca-Cola, Burger King, Jiffy Lube, Ramada, Blimpies, Jackson Hewitt, Jamba Juice and Cinnabon.
