Casio Launches 'Operation Safe House' Aiding Law Enforcement in Their Quest To Locate Missing Children
Posted by WDN, December 06, 2001
To help in the task of locating missing children, TouchStar and Casio have teamed up to bring police departments a powerful new high technology hand held solution that enables images and vital information to be captured and distributed quickly and efficiently using well proven CDPD wireless technology or wireline modem where there is no CDPD coverage
According to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, over 1-million children in America are reported
missing each year. In order to help law enforcement officials find missing children, Casio, Inc. along with their partner TouchStar Americas, Inc. have affirmed their commitment
to the public safety market by launching "Operation Safe House."
"Operation Safe House," whose goal it is to trace missing children quickly and effectively, is an initiative developed by Casio, Inc. of Dover, N.J., one of the world's leading
providers of consumer electronic products and mobile computing solutions.
Casio, Inc. and TouchStar Americas, Inc., Tulsa, OK, a leading software developer, have combined hardware, software, and wireless service to deliver a product that provides
law enforcement the ability to capture and rapidly distribute photographic and descriptive information about missing children. Immediate distribution of critical information is one
of the most important elements of successful recovery of a missing child.
The solution is comprised of the CASSIOPEIA EG-800 Industrial Pocket PC, TouchStar's CDPD wireless backpack , a Casio compact flash digital camera, and specialized
software developed by TouchStar. The package also includes one year of wireless CDPD service. The solution has received support and approval by the U.S. National Center
for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Todd Weissman, vice president of Casio's Mobile Information Products Division envisions many applications within the security sector for "Project Safe House." "The ability to
combine a digital camera, PDA, wireless data communications and application software, provides a major benefit to law enforcement and other security operations where the
rapid distribution of information is critical," said Weissman.
"This is just one of a number of pre-packaged solutions that Casio will bring to the market. The overall objective is to facilitate the easy adoption of mobile computing solutions
by enterprise and government. By combining CasioWare Partner software solutions with Casio hardware platforms, Casio will offer turnkey bundled solutions allowing
customers to quickly deploy mobile applications," continued Weissman. The CasioWare Solutions Program, launched by Casio in April 2001 is designed to embrace best of
breed software solutions and assure full compatibility with selected Casio platforms.
Brian Aldham, Channel Manager, TouchStar Americas, Inc. says, "This unique hardware and software solution combines for the first time, several key functions in one
package. The advantages are tremendous -- with this solution a picture and text data can be securely distributed nationwide in a matter of seconds."
"Operation Safe House" solution is available for shipment to end-users during November 2001. Additional information is available at http://www.casiosafehouse.com .
