  • MySnowReport
  • Mobliss Introduces “MySnowReport” to Nextel’s Wireless Phones

Posted by WDN, December 11, 2001

A One-Stop Information Center for Ski Resort Weather Conditions

Seattle, WA, December 11, 2001 – How’s the powder at the Winter Park ski resort in Colorado? What are the snowboarding conditions at Smuggler’s Notch in Vermont? For snow sport enthusiasts, there’s nothing more disappointing than arriving at a resort that lacks enough snow. Now skiers and snowboarders can better plan their trips by getting up-to-the-minute winter weather conditions instantly–right on their Nextel Internet-ready wireless phones.

Mobliss, Inc., a leading wireless media and marketing company, has partnered with Nextel Communications (Nasdaq: NXTL) to introduce MySnowReport, the ultimate information resource for skiers, snowboarders and other winter sports buffs. Nextel Online® subscribers can now access their own free snow reports with updated mountain conditions for over 200 ski and snowboarding resorts in North America.

Snow reports are broken down by region and resort, and include a special “Dump of the Day” feature highlighting the resorts that have seen the most snowfall on that particular day. The service is designed to help snow sports enthusiasts – many of whom are busy professionals constantly on the move – decide when and where to go skiing or snowboarding. This season, the service is available beginning now through mid-April 2002.

“Since many of our customers travel on business, they’re really interested in weather conditions and other types of information available on their mobile phones.” says Tim Dunne, vice president Business Development at Nextel Communications. “Often, their Internet-ready wireless phone is the most handy device they have with them while traveling. MySnowReport is great content because it’s very time sensitive, and people on the go need this information as soon as possible.”

Providing the snow report data is SnoCountry Mountain Reports (www.snocountry.org), a non-profit organization that has been the authority on Alpine snow conditions since 1968. Ski resorts from around the world report their snow conditions to SnoCountry on a daily basis, along with other weather and special event information.

With Mobliss’ MySnowReport, users can also create a profile of their favorite resorts, and can opt-in for time-sensitive snowfall alerts to be sent to their Nextel phone. There is also a Web-based version at www.mysnowreport.com, where users can manage their profile and sign up to receive reports via e-mail.

“Mobliss is intent on creating the right type of wireless content focused on users’ entertainment needs,” says Brian Levin, president and co-founder of Mobliss. “MySnowReport is perfect for the wireless medium because it offers up-to-the-minute reports for people on the go.”
