OPENWAVE HOSTS SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT FORUM WIRELESS SIG
Posted by WDN, Feb. 06, 2002
Forum Provides a Unique Opportunity for Developers to Network With Top Wireless Industry
Experts
Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the worldwide
leader of open IP-based communication infrastructure software and applications, will host this month’s
Software Development Forum (SDForum) Wireless Media Special Interest Group (SIG) on Thursday, February
7, 2002, in Redwood City. The goal of the Wireless Media SIG is to provide a collaborative environment for the
wireless industry, consisting of hardware manufacturers, software developers and telecommunication
carriers. The SDForum serves as an unbiased resource for research and education, facilitating interaction
among developers, vendors and end users.
“The SDForum is an international conduit for developers to not only meet with industry experts, but also gain
exposure to timely business and technical trends emerging in today’s progressing wireless industry,” said
Joe Jasin, founder and chairman of Wireless Media SIG. “The SDForum offers a unique environment that
brings together software professionals, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, industry innovators and
seasoned experts participating with major technology companies to collaborate, making it the premiere Silicon
Valley organization for the wireless industry since 1998.”
The featured speaker for this month’s Forum is Ron Mandel, manager of the global developer services
program at Openwave, who will be discussing developer platforms and relations around the world, WAP 2.0
and various notification technologies. Mandel will offer attendees valuable insight on how content providers
work with carriers in Korea, Japan and Europe. Mandel will provide an in-depth perspective on Wireless
Application Protocol (WAP) and notification technologies.
”As a leader in the developer community, we are thrilled to be hosting and supporting the Wireless Media SIG
meeting this week,” said Kathy Simpson, director of developer marketing for Openwave. “It is critical for
developers to be armed with the most up-to-date business and technology knowledge tools and have
access to industry experts in order to maintain the competitive edge needed in today’s challenging market.”
For those attending the meeting on February 7, Openwave will be making available its "Mastering WAP/WML"
computer-based training CD, which teaches content developers how to create powerful Internet-based
applications and services for WAP-enabled wireless phones. Through these applications and services,
content providers can reach the growing worldwide community of wireless Internet subscribers.
The SIG meeting will take place at Openwave’s Redwood City Headquarters and starts at 6:00 PM with
registration and refreshments. Admission is free to all SDForum members and students with ID. It is $15 for all
non-members. Please visit the SDForum Web site for more information.
In addition to tools, Openwave fosters a thriving global developer community through a variety of programs.
