  • ClickServices Unveils Movera Server Release 6 and Movera Studio -- On-Demand Mobile Access for Any Application or Data

Posted by WDN, Feb. 11, 2002

PHOENIX, Feb 11, 2002 -- ClickServices, a technology leader for mobile application software, today announced at the Demo 2002 conference the availability of the ClickServices Movera Server Release 6 and Movera Studio, a visual development environment for mobile applications. Movera offers an alternative to other solutions by providing a dynamic presentation layer for mobile applications that works automatically in multiple markup languages, on all mobile devices, and in multiple natural languages.

Most mobile applications rely on a process of converting HTML pages taken from Web servers into wireless markup languages such as WML (used by WAP phones) and c-HTML (used by i-mode phones and PDAs). This provides an easy way of making Web-based information accessible to mobile devices, but for applications often results in separate applications for different devices, markup languages or natural languages. Supporting new devices, markups, and natural languages in the same application can be costly and difficult.

ClickServices patent-pending Dynamic Rendering technology, built into Movera, cuts the cost of developing mobile applications by eliminating redundant development efforts for different devices, markup languages, and natural languages. Dynamic Rendering allows a single application to work simultaneously on all devices worldwide, in multiple markup languages, and in multiple natural languages such as English and Spanish. Dynamic Rendering also enables mobile applications to easily support new devices, markup languages, natural languages, and other technologies.

Using Movera Studio, developers of mobile applications, systems integrators and enterprises can enable wireless access so that applications adapt on demand to different wireless devices. Simultaneous support for eleven natural languages has been demonstrated in a single application. Movera supports the HDML, WML, c-HTML, HTML, and MML markup languages with support for XHTML and Java(TM) 2 Platform, Mobile Edition (J2ME(TM)) scheduled for release in Q2, 2002.

Movera Studio provides intuitive drag-and-drop features that allow developers to create mobile applications independent of markup languages and without knowing the details of wireless markup languages. Movera makes developing Dynamic Rendering-based mobile applications as easy as using popular Web development tools.

"Dynamic Rendering uniquely satisfies the requirements of developers and large multi-national customers," said Sundaram Natarajan, president and CEO of ClickServices. "ClickServices enables access to applications on a global basis by simultaneously supporting all combinations of devices, networks, markup languages, and natural languages, including 2.5G and 3G technologies."

Built using the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE(TM)) and Enterprise JavaBeans(TM) (EJB(TM)) components, The Movera Server Release 6 server is highly scalable and runs on popular application servers, including iPlanet(TM) Application Server, BEA WebLogic(TM), and IBM WebSphere(TM).

"By leveraging new technologies such as J2ME, mobile application vendors like ClickServices are building on the technology foundation that Sun provides," said Rich Schaefer, market development manager for Enterprise Wireless Market Development at Sun Microsystems'. "Based on Java technology, Movera Studio enables developers to create products which run anywhere, any time over any device, as required by today's mobile device market."

ClickServices is a SunTone-certified software developer. As a member of the SunTone Certification and Branding program, ClickServices supports the objectives of the SunTone program, which assists companies in providing Web- based services and applications that are secure, reliable and available. Led by Sun, the SunTone program is the industry's first collaborative effort to define and audit service provider infrastructure, operational practices, hardware and applications for quality service delivery.

ClickServices customers are rapidly embracing Movera as the next logical step in the evolution of mobile application technology. "ClickServices Dynamic Rendering technology makes it practical for PurchasePro to offer wireless access to its business customers, said Jim Jensen, Director of Wireless Development for PurchasePro (Nasdaq: PPRO). "ClickServices latest server and Movera Studio are making our wireless initiatives successful at the same time that new technologies are hitting the market."

"ClickServices has been providing wireless money management for our members for the past year," said Brian Siegel, Vice President of eCommerce for Wescom Credit Union. "We chose ClickServices because of their unique technology."

ClickServices provides broad support for microbrowsers, such as the Openwave browser, and for devices including WAP and i-mode mobile phones, as well as Palm OS and PocketPC devices.

"New tools from developers such as ClickServices will allow enterprises to move quickly toward wirelessly enabling their mobile workforce," said Chris Cadwell, Director of Product Marketing at Handspring(TM). "These wireless applications will enhance devices such as our new Treo(TM) family of communicators and help businesses increase productivity and efficiency."

"ClickServices support of all versions of the Openwave Mobile Browser means their solution can work on more than 200 million devices and over 200 mobile phone models worldwide," said Von Cameron, vice president of strategic services at Openwave. Openwave Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV). "ClickServices is one of the first Openwave developers supporting advanced features of Openwave release 5.0 Mobile Browser, including the Graphical User Interface extensions to WML."
