AOL Latin America Launches Upgraded Wireless E-mail in Brazil, Mexico and Argentina -- AOL WAP Mail 1.1
Offers Greater Integration With AOL's PC-based E-Mail, Providing Mobile Access to the AOL Address Book, "Fast
Messages," and Sort and Search Features
Posted by WDN, Feb. 14, 2002
America Online Latin America, Inc. (NASDAQ:AOLA) one of the leading interactive service
providers in Latin America, today announced upgraded wireless e-mail for the AOL service for Internet-ready mobile phones in Brazil, Mexico and Argentina.
AOL WAP Mail 1.1 provides AOL members with greater integration between their wireless e-mail and AOL Mail on their PCs.
AOL WAP Mail 1.1 offers mobile users a new interface that provides greater ease of use and convenience. AOL members using AOL WAP Mail 1.1 can access
their AOL Address Books through their mobile phones, take advantage of new "Fast Messaging" capabilities that utilize pre-written mail messages created on the
PC, and enjoy Sort and Search features similar to those offered on AOL Mail over the PC. This new mail offering advances AOL Latin America's AOL Anywhere
strategy, which aims to extend the benefits of AOL to members over interactive platforms beyond the PC.
Eduardo Hauser, Vice President of AOL Services for AOL Latin America, said: "AOL WAP Mail version 1.1 offers our members in Brazil, Mexico, and
Argentina greater ease of use and convenience, providing features that combine the power of the AOL interactive experience with the ability to communicate when
they are on the go. This upgrade will make AOL's wireless offerings even more valuable to our members. As more Latin American's discover the online medium,
we remain committed to providing the best possible interactive experience on a variety of platforms."
With AOL WAP Mail 1.1, AOL members in Latin America will enjoy an array of new features, including:
-- AOL Address Book: AOL members can now access over their
Internet-ready phones the same AOL Address Books they have on
their PCs. With AOL WAP Mail 1.1, members can also edit and
update their Address Books through their mobile phones.
-- Fast Messages: Members can store and use Fast Messages. The
Fast Message feature allows users to type messages and
information while they are on their PCs, then save the text in
groups for later use over their Internet-ready phones. This
feature gives WAP mail users the ability to create e-mails by
combining pre-written fast messages -- without having to type
extensive amounts of text into their telephone keypads.
-- Sort and Search: AOL WAP Mail 1.1 also allows users to sort
new, old and sent mail by date, sender and subject, similar to
the mail capabilities on the AOL software for PCs. In
addition, the new WAP mail offering includes a search function
that helps users find messages in their mailboxes.
AOL Latin America has launched the AOL service for Internet-ready phones in the region's three largest Internet markets, establishing wireless portals in Brazil
(WAP URL: www.aolmovel.com.br), Mexico (WAP URL: www.aolmovil.com.mx) and Argentina (WAP URL: wap.aol.com.ar). AOL Latin America's
wireless portals offer news, access to online banking, financial tools and stock quotes, sports and entertainment content.
