  • Itronix Announces New GSM/GPRS Enabled GoBook Max(TM) at 3GSM World Congress

Posted by WDN, Feb. 18, 2002

Sierra Wireless AirCard(R) 750 Allows Itronix Range of Rugged, Wireless Handheld and Notebook Computers to Be GSM/GPRS Enabled

Itronix Corporation, a world leader in the design and manufacture of ruggedized, enterprise wireless mobile computing solutions, today announced at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France that it has selected the Sierra Wireless AirCard 750 to integrate GSM/GPRS support into its range of rugged, wireless handheld and notebook computers, including the brand new GoBook Max ultra-rugged notebook PC. The AirCard 750 allows Itronix' products to be GSM/GPRS enabled for use in North America, Europe and other International GSM markets.

Jeff Gibbons, Itronix Vice President of Marketing, comments, "Itronix has enjoyed an excellent relationship with Sierra Wireless for the past 5 years, deploying highly successful wireless packet data solutions for automating enterprise field workforces in North America. We look to Sierra Wireless for industry leading quality and performance that enables Itronix to provide wireless solutions that drive optimal bottom-line results for our customers."

The AirCard 750 will be implemented via Itronix' CRMA(TM) (Common Radio Module Architecture), which offers Itronix enterprise customers wireless investment protection. CRMA allows Itronix customers the option to upgrade the fully integrated radio as GPRS wireless technologies evolve to WCDMA or GPRS/Edge. Typically rugged computers are deployed 3 to 5 years before replacement. With the rapid changes occurring in wireless technology, CRMA uniquely protects the future option to leverage the benefits and added performance of 3rd generation wireless technologies.

"We are pleased to broaden our successful relationship with Itronix, to deliver GSM/GPRS enabled products to international markets," said Derek Evans, Vice President, European Distribution, Sierra Wireless. "Itronix designs and manufactures best-of-breed ruggedized, mobile computing solutions, that exemplify Sierra Wireless's core values of performance, reliability and support. We are delighted to be working with a partner that offers such a clear and demonstrable value proposition to corporate enterprise customers." Itronix has been deploying wireless packet data solutions in North America for over 10 years in enterprise field force dispatch and automation applications. This experience enables Itronix to optimize these solutions for maximum wireless coverage and simple operation, both required to drive maximum returns on an organization's wireless investment.

Both Sierra Wireless and Itronix are members of the WirelessReady(TM) Alliance, a program founded by Sierra Wireless that unites wireless industry-leading members in the development of complete and compelling wireless data solutions.
