MapInfo miAware Developer Services Program Extends New Revenue Opportunities
to Developers Worldwide -- Program Empowers Application Developers and Content
Providers to Quickly Create and Deliver Innovative Mobile Location Applications to
Wireless Operators
Posted by WDN, Feb. 19, 2002
3GSM World Congress--MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq:
MAPS) today announced the MapInfo(R) miAware(TM) Developer Services Program, a worldwide program that provides
developers and content providers with new revenue opportunities in the growing market for business and consumer mobile
location services applications. By joining this program, developers will have access to MapInfo's proven miAware technology
platform, comprehensive technical support and valuable exposure to worldwide marketing and sales opportunities with
wireless operators. Developers and content providers interested in learning about this program should visit MapInfo during the
3GSM World Congress at Stand D38, Hall 2.
"By making its platform and services available to third-party developers and content providers, MapInfo is paving the way for
development of unique mobile location services for the wireless community," said Brent Iadarola, Mobile Communications
Analyst of Frost & Sullivan. "Developers throughout the world can now leverage MapInfo's solid, time-tested foundation to
build their own innovative applications that are `powered by miAware.'"
MapInfo designed the miAware Developer Services Program to provide developers with all the software and resources
needed to quickly build and deploy commercially viable mobile location applications. Developers will now be able to take
advantage of miAware, the only fully integrated platform for creating customized mobile location services applications.
Through industry standard XML APIs, developers can access all necessary core mapping, geocoding and location services.
miAware's Java(TM)-based architecture offers stability, scalability and performance.
Additionally, by joining the miAware Developer Services Program, content providers will be able to team up with application
developers to design complete mobile location services offerings that have high value in the marketplace. In particular demand
for integration with mobile location services is real-time event content, such as movie information, up-to-date traffic and
weather reports and emergency response and public safety information.
Application possibilities span a wide range, but will share a common theme of enhancing the lives of mobile phone users by
making information more accessible and more relevant to their current location. While the most common examples include
location-enhanced games, city guides, real-time traffic updates and automatic vehicle tracking, MapInfo anticipates rapid
innovation in this market. The miAware Developer Services Program is intended to encourage creativity and fuel this
innovation by bringing developers into the mobile location services market.
"Wireless operators are demanding new mobile applications that are ready to be used today. The miAware Developer
Services Program is the only program that provides developers with the capabilities necessary to meet these demands now,"
said Michael Hickey, executive vice president, sales and marketing of MapInfo.
