Walt Disney Internet Group and KDDI Offer Disney Mobile Wireless Content Via au and Tu-Ka's EZweb
Internet Platform
Posted by WDN, January 24, 2002
Walt Disney Internet Group and KDDI Corp. have entered a
cooperative agreement to offer Disney Mobile wireless content over the "Disney-ez" site, accessible via KDDI's au and Tu-Ka EZweb wireless
Internet platforms.
The agreement enables wireless subscribers to EZweb-compatible au and Tu-Ka cellular phone services in Japan to download images, ring-tone
melodies, news and e-cards featuring their favorite Disney characters. Disney-ez will also offer a Magic Point system that allows users of the site's
services to accumulate points that can later be exchanged for original Disney-ez goods.
The new service, launched December 24, 2001 from Walt Disney Internet Group and KDDI, will introduce even more Japanese mobile phone users to
Disney branded wireless content, and follows previous agreements with NTT DoCoMo and J-Phone Group.
"We are very pleased to broaden our distribution in Japan and to bring Disney content to KDDI cellular phone users," said Mark Handler, executive
vice president and managing director, International, Walt Disney Internet Group. "KDDI is a strong business partner and we look forward to leveraging
their advanced technologies to debut new content services."
"The KDDI Group is delighted to be able to offer an exciting array of Disney-themed services to our growing number of mobile phone subscribers,"
said KDDI senior general manager, Ikuyoshi Inoue. "We are currently preparing to launch our third-generation (3G) high-speed mobile phone service
next spring. Adding Disney-ez to our EZ website is another example of our commitment to enhancing the value of our services to our subscribers."
