Borland Unveils JBuilder MobileSet 2 for J2ME Wireless Application Development
Posted by WDN, January 29, 2002
Free Download Features Multiple Vendor Device Support and ``Over the Air'' Provisioning Support
Borland Software Corporation (Nasdaq:BORL) today announced the immediate
availability of Borland(R) JBuilder(TM) MobileSet 2.0 for rapid development of mobile and wireless applications for the Java(TM) 2 Platform, Mobile
Edition (J2ME(TM)). The product is available as a free download from the Borland Web site, at:
http://www.borland.com/jbuilder/mobileset/download.html.
Integrated with Borland JBuilder 6, the market leading Java development environment, MobileSet 2.0 is a J2ME-compliant environment that supports
software development in Java-enabled devices. In addition to new samples and tutorials, the new version of JBuilder MobileSet includes the following
new features:
- Over the Air (OTA) provisioning -- Using the OTA Manager in
JBuilder MobileSet, mobile application developers can upload
files to an FTP server, and download, install, and remove
installed MIDlet Suites.
- Enhanced vendor device support -- JBuilder MobileSet now
installs and fully integrates the Sun(R)J2ME Wireless
Toolkit 1.0.3, and continues support for the Nokia Developer's
Suite for J2ME and the Siemens Mobility Toolkit (SMTK).
- Enhanced MIDP (Mobile Information Device Profile) Designer --
The improved designer allows developers to create
event-handling code for interface elements and visually work
with images.
"As an author and instructor focused on J2ME and the Mobile Information Device Profile, I found JBuilder MobileSet 2.0 to be a comprehensive,
robust and extensible development environment for wireless development," said John Muchow, founder and chief technology officer of The Wireless
Mind, Inc. "Because it is tightly integrated with JBuilder, JBuilder MobileSet encompasses all the tools necessary to develop, debug, package and
deploy MIDP applications. The potential for wireless applications is boundless, and with JBuilder and MobileSet 2.0, developers have a complete
environment to tap this emerging market."
"As J2ME gains rapid acceptance around the world, and industry standards continue to evolve, enterprises of all sizes can continue to count on Borland
to provide best-in-class development environments," said Tony de la Lama, vice president and general manager of Java solutions for Borland. "We are
pleased to offer JBuilder MobileSet, in conjunction with JBuilder, the market leading Java development environment, to spark innovation throughout the
emerging wireless market."
JBuilder MobileSet includes visual design tools for creating mobile applications, device emulation and debugging, as well as all of the standard features
offered with JBuilder. JBuilder MobileSet is also fully integrated into JBuilder for building and deploying J2ME applications using the MIDP and CLDC
(Connected Limited Device Configuration) platforms.
