Webraska establishes German operations
Posted by WDN, July 18, 2001
Webraska, the worldwide provider of wireless navigation services and
technologies, has established a subsidiary in Germany
Patrick Zuncke is appointed Country Manager for German and Austrian
operations. Before joining Webraska, Zuncke worked as Chief
Operating Officer at Netztel Plus AG, one of the fastest growing
German wireless service providers. With his contribution, the service
provider was able to extend its client base from 20.000 to over
230.000 within 12 months. Additionally, strategic partnerships were
closed with Siemens Mobile, Space2go and Borussia Dortmund, one of
the two German soccer teams ever to win the Champions League.
According to Patrick Zuncke, location-based services are the killer
application the German market has been waiting for.
"Many Germans commute, they love to travel, they are annoyed of
searching for hotels, shops, or gas stations. Location-based services
are the missing piece in mobile telephony and Webraska enables
users to draw maximum potential out of their handheld", he
explained.
The position of Sales Director Automotive for Germany and Austria will
be assumed by Hans Roth who brings solid experience with
automotive systems and was previously responsible for Infotainment
Systems for DaimlerChrysler US and Europe at Becker Automotive
Systems GmbH.
"Webraska's wireless navigation technology is the central building
block and driving force for a successful growth of Telematics and
location-based services. I am confident that there is no other
application which is able to drive this business better and to attract the
consumer more than our technology", added Hans Roth.
In addition to Germany, Webraska has now offices in Australia,
Belgium, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore,
Spain, UK, and USA.
Information on Webraska
Webraska's Vision
Webraska was established in 1998 based on a vision of the
opportunities generated by the convergence of Internet, mobile
telecommunications and in-car navigation technology.
Webraska's Customers and Partners around the World
Webraska´s customers are organisations with large mobility-oriented
customer bases such as telecom operators, car makers, telematic
service providers, content providers, systems integrators and wireless
applications developers. Among them are leading players worldwide
such as Airtel, Belgacom, KPN, M1, Orange Switzerland, Pacific Access,
SFR, Telecom Italia Mobile, Vizzavi and VoiceStream (Telekom
daughter in the USA).
Webraska also counts leading industry players such as Alcatel, Borg,
IBM, Nortel Networks, and Oracle as strategic partners.
Webraska in Germany
Since early 2000, ADAC's wireless Internet portal has been offering
services powered by Webraska. They include real-time information on
traffic congestion in 14 cities, route planning and nearest facilities
services, such as search for the nearest gas station or hotel. These
services are available to D1, D2 ePlus and Viag Interkom subscribers.
In May 2001, Webraska also signed an agreement with German in-car
terminal manufacturer Borg Instruments. Their new generation of
terminals, called QUO VADIS, will provide low cost interactive and
real-time telematics services, itinerary calculation, maps, turn-by turn
navigation, POI access, and traffic information, throughout Europe and
the United States. The combination of the QUO VADIS terminal and
the Webraska Wireless Navigation Platform™ will be offered in the
B-to-B markets including the after-market. Detailed information about
this agreement is available at:

Webraska, Wireless Navigation services and technologies
To help its customers integrate the many pieces of the real-time
wireless navigation puzzle, Webraska's German office will
commercialise and support the company's full range of products.
These include Webraska's high performance open-standards-based
Wireless Navigation Platform™, Webraska's Personal Navigation API™
and SDKs, designed for the developers community, a Call Centre
interface, the Personal Navigation Suite, IbDN® and IbDN® Lite.
Access modes include Java-based Interfaces, XML-queries for
IVR-systems, SMS-connectivity, WAP, internet personalisation,
support, and visualisation.
Webraska applications were originally designed to turn any mobile
device (phones or PDAs) into a personal co-pilot and provide a
flexible and complete alternative to CD-ROM based automotive
navigation systems by using the company's patented technology. This
applies in particular to IbDN® Lite. This solution is more affordable for
the end-user who does not need to purchase expensive equipment
with highly perishable data. With IbDN® Lite, data is stored in distant
servers and constantly refreshed to guarantee the most up-to-date
information to the end-user. This system also allows to include
complementary information from any possible source, under any
format. Full information about IbDN® Lite is available at:
http://www.webraska.com/news/popup/20010515_ibdnlite.htm
The various functionalities of IbDN® Lite will be presented by
Webraska to the press during the next Internationale Automobile
Ausstellung Show in Frankfurt, on 11 and 12 September.
