Pocket PC Films Partners With nREACH to Distribute Feature Films At Airports and Retailers Nationwide
Posted by WDN, June 17, 2002
Programming Will Be Available Via Download From Stand-Alone Kiosks to Media Cards On Handheld Devices!
SHERMAN OAKS, Calif., Jun 17, 2002 - Pocket PC Films, the worldwide leader in multimedia distribution for handheld
computers, has signed a new contract with nREACH to distribute feature films and other programming through nREACH's innovative patent-pending Mobile
Content Kiosk(TM) powered by Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows Media, the .NET Framework and Visual Studio .NET. Kiosks will be in U.S. airports,
retailers, malls, and public "hot spots" by Fall 2002, the two companies announced today.
Under the terms of the agreement, nREACH kiosks will include Pocket PC Films' entertainment product from their library of more than 25,000 titles, including
titles from the recent distribution deal signed with Lions Gate Entertainment. To download programming from an nREACH kiosk, PDA users will simply insert their
preferred media card or disc into a corresponding slot. After a small financial transaction, the film or other programming will then transfer directly onto the card
with download speeds under 3 minutes.
"With nREACH's kiosk platform, it will be easier than ever to put programming on a handheld device," remarked Darrell Griffin, President, TuneIn
Entertainment/Pocket PC Films. "This new technology will be an extremely effective way to introduce users to the capabilities of their handheld device, and allow
users to put programming on their PDAs without the need for a laptop or desktop computer."
"We are very excited to be working with an industry leader such as Pocket PC Films," remarked Mike Stemple, CEO of nREACH. "Their unique and varied film
library is an integral feature to our Mobile Content Kiosk(TM). Now handheld users can choose from an assortment of great titles and instantly view them
wherever they are."
"Pocket PC Films and nREACH's choice of Windows Media Technologies makes it easy and inexpensive to build this new distribution capability for digital video
content," said Jonathan Usher, director of the Windows Digital Media Division at Microsoft Corp.
In addition to this latest deal with nREACH, Pocket PC Films currently distributes video programming, via CD-ROM at retail, for use on Pocket PC and Palm
OS devices. To support Pocket PCs, Pocket PC Films uses their patent- pending Pocket Cinema Installer software to view programs on the Microsoft Window
Media Player and uses the Generic Media gMovie Player to view programming on the Palm OS system. This enables Pocket PC Films to deliver VHS quality
video on PDAs, with installation and viewer programs provided on each CD-ROM. Each disk currently retails between $9.99 - $49.99 SRP.
