Posted by WDN, June 26, 2001
Mobile application platform provider iConverse completes project within two weeks to enable July voting deadline; http://mobile.mlb.com accessible via every device on the market
New York, NY and Waltham, Mass. - June 26 - MLB Advanced Media, LP (MLBAM), the interactive media and Internet
company of Major League Baseball, and iConverse, Inc., a leading mobile application platform provider, today unveiled
wireless access for All-Star voting and Scores on the Go™ for baseball fans. The new MLB.com wireless service,
developed and deployed by iConverse and located at http://mobile.mlb.com, enables baseball fans to vote their
favorite players onto the Major League Baseball All-Star Team™ and retrieve up-to-the-minute scores at anytime, from
anywhere, using any mobile device.
This new service reaffirms MLBAM's commitment to provide the best customer service to baseball enthusiasts around the
globe to help them keep up with the game they love no matter where they are.
MLB Advanced Media chose the iConverse Mobility Platform™ for its wireless initiative because of iConverse's key
competitive differentiators including its open standards base, flexible back-end connectivity,
quick-time-to-deployment, low long-term cost of ownership and ease of maintenance.
"iConverse offered us the ability to support our mobile initiative going forward without incurring a large services
bill every time we update our site," said Joe Choti, chief technology officer of MLBAM. "iConverse brought MLB.com's
wireless access to market in less than two weeks and delivered applications that provide a more customized and
interactive end-user experience than we thought possible."
MLB Advanced Media may further enhance the features of its wireless service to include player stats, and wireless
auctions for its mobile fans over the next six months. MLBAM's agreement with iConverse runs through the end of 2001.
"Businesses are realizing and harnessing the power of mobile to increase customer satisfaction and strengthen loyal
relationships, which in turn, helps drive revenue," said Ron Matros, CEO and president of iConverse. "We are happy to
work with MLB Advanced Media to help them extend their strategy to a dynamic, interactive channel like mobile, and we
are pleased that the iConverse team could meet the project requirements to help MLBAM better serve their customers
and baseball's millions of fans."
