  • O2 Germany Selects Redknee's WLAN Payment System

Posted by WirelessDevNet March 25, 2003

Munich, Germany (March 25, 2003) - Redknee Inc. today announced that their WLAN Payment System has been selected by O2 Germany to provide mobile customers with secure, easy-to-use WLAN data services. The Redknee system provides authentication and real-time billing for high speed WLAN access.

Mobile customers have an increasing need for access to services such as email and other data services from hotspots such as hotels, airports or trade fairs. With Redknee's WLAN Payment System, O2 Germany can offer their customers the convenience of affordable data access with multiple payment options. The system allows a rapid roll-out of multiple hotspots through its vendor independent design, and builds on the success of mmO2's WLAN roll-out in Ireland.

"Redknee is experiencing tremendous demand for our WLAN solutions from operators wanting to address this valuable market sector", said Chris Newton-Smith, Managing Director, Redknee Europe. "Our proven solutions are highly relevant to operator's business needs."

"Security and convenience are vital to WLAN services," said Markus von Böhlen, Head of Wholesale & Commerce, O2 Germany. "We chose Redknee's WLAN system because we can easily expand our WLAN coverage, by integrating several WLAN service partners."

Redknee's WLAN Payment System provides O2 Germany with several subscriber payment options. Casual users will have the option to purchase a voucher at each WLAN hotspot, and from summer 2003 postpaid customers will have the convenience of charging WLAN services to their monthly bills. The Redknee WLAN solution compliments O2 Germany's GPRS and UMTS infrastructure, as it facilitates seamless connectivity via designated WLAN hotspots. Each hotspot provider will be granted secure access and control over their individual WLAN payment and billing services.

Redknee's commercially deployed suite of service applications includes Messaging, Mobility, Payment, and Data/Call Control solutions. Redknee solutions integrate seamlessly with existing mobile networks, and accelerate the development and adoption of revenue-generating mobile network services through 3GPP/2 Open Services Access and Open Mobile Alliance Web-Services based architectures.

    About Redknee:

Redknee products are deployed in over 20 networks around the world and support more than 70 million subscribers generating 10 million transactions per hour, making Redknee Inc the worldwide leader in Open Services Architecture (OSA) products for 2G, 2.5G and 3G mobile networks.
