Sun Microsystems, Inc. today announced a new Java Center of Excellence service designed to help Fortune 500
companies advance their in-house development staff's best practices, processes and skill sets to improve their ongoing delivery of Java
technology based projects. As a result, key early adopters of this new service such as Ford Motor Company are improving quality of
service, reducing costs, enhancing their agility and increasing ROI in delivering products and services through the Web, all using Java
technologies. See http://java.sun.com/javaone/
McCabe & Associates , a leader in providing
software testing and quality assurance solutions for more than 120 mid- and large-sized customers across all industries,
today launched Release Rocket Verify 1.0, the industry’s first tool that identifies, tracks, and reports on software-testing
efforts at the change level. This unique, user-friendly tool focuses on the verification of changes and testing results
across an entire application via real-time feedback, enabling rapid delivery of releases with high confidence for
developers, testers, and managers. Verify reduces testing time, maximizes existing testing resources, and increases the
manageability of application releases, resulting in more flexibility, faster validation, and increased productivity for
software teams. See http://www.mccabe.com
Velatte , an application assembly
tool for Java[tm] 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE[tm]) application servers, will support the iPlanet [tm] Application Server
6.5 from Sun Microsystems. The combination brings together Velatte's strengths in Java-based software development
frameworks and component assembly technologies, and Sun's strengths in the development, manufacturing and
distribution of computing network products worldwide. Velatte is a Java-based rapid application assembly tool that
enables organizations to build Web-based business solutions in weeks instead of months, utilizing existing staff and skill
sets. See www.velatte.com
Espial , creator of software that powers the world of smart
Internet devices, today demonstrated its Personal Basis Profile version of Espial Suite for TV(TM) at Sun's
JavaOne(SM) Developer Conference. The Personal Basis Profile is the successor to the PersonalJava(TM) application
environment. It provides support for Internet applets in consumer devices and serves as the migration path for
applications based on PersonalJava technology into the Java(TM) 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME(TM)). The Espial
Personal Basis Profile is targeted for devices with the need of a high degree of Internet connectivity.

Parasoft , a leading provider of error-prevention software solutions, today announced upgrades of their Java(tm) testing
tools, Jtest 4.5 and Jcontract 1.5. These tools enable developers to automatically test Java applications and prevent
errors before they become disastrous. Jtest award-winning technology automates all aspects of the unit testing process including black-box (functionality),
white-box (construction), and regression testing. In addition, it automatically enforces over 300 industry-respected
coding standards and enables developers to add their own coding standards. See www.parasoft.com
Visionics and Wirehound Provide Real-Time Wireless Facial Recognition
Capability on Mobile Phones. The application, developed specifically for a law enforcement agency, uses Visionics' FaceIt(R) ARGUS as the delivery
platform for facial recognition capabilities and Wirehound's Birddog software on Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition
(J2ME(TM)) technology-enabled mobile phone with a color display. The FaceIt ARGUS system automatically finds
faces in a field of view and searches them against a mug shot database. Upon finding a match, the Birddog component
generates a wireless alert to the phones used by mobile law enforcement officials, who are then able to verify the
identity of the subject. The phones can store multiple images and are alerted when a new image arrives. Non-matched
images are automatically discarded from the system. See www.visionics.com or

IONA and Metrowerks Announce Alliance To Deliver Web Services
Integration to Wireless Devices. The integration of technology from IONA's Orbix E2A XMLBus Edition and Metrowerks CodeWarrior Wireless Studio
allows wireless developers to develop powerful J2ME technology applications that connect to published Web services in
record time. By just pointing to a WSDL file, the integrated product generates all the code for a basic MIDlet including
the network client, XML parser and simple user interface. The generated Web services MIDlet can be then tested in a
variety of VMs, SDKs and emulators provided with CodeWarrior Wireless Studio. The whole process takes just a few
minutes. See www.metrowerks.com

At the JavaOne conference today Cacheon launched the
industry's first J2EE migration management system. The Cacheon Migrator is a tool enabling customers to easily
convert existing J2EE applications from one application server platform to another. Cacheon has joined with Oracle as
its first go to market partner and will preview BEA WebLogic to Oracle9i Application Server (Oracle9iAS) migration
capability. By automating the migration effort, it is now possible to relocate existing applications from BEA WebLogic to
Oracle9iAS without the time consuming manual effort and expensive custom development that is normally required.
