GRAVITATE LAUNCHES WORLD'S FIRST DEVELOPER
PROGRAM FOR LOCATION BASED SERVICES
Posted by WDN, October 08, 2001
Gravitate Hosts Its Own Location Server For Application Developers
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Gravitate, Inc.(www.gravitate-usa.com),
provider of the Gravitate Platform, a comprehensive software solution for the development,
deployment and delivery of advanced location-based wireless Internet services, today
announced its Developer Program to the world of Location Based Services. Gravitate is the
first company in the Location Based Services industry to release a comprehensive
developer's web site which enables developers to simply and effectively write and deploy
state-of-the-art LBS applications.
Under the program, Gravitate will host the Location Server and allow developers around the
world to download the Gravitate SDK (GDK) for the purpose of developing mobile-to-static
(i.e. finding a proximate point-of-interest or commerce), mobile-to-mobile (i.e. finding a
proximate mobile user), and static2mobile (i.e. a point-of-interest pushing information to a
proximate mobile user), applications. The Location Server supports a hierarchy of access
controls allowing multiple Enterprise Customer Domains to securely access the same location
server.
The Gravitate Location Server is a carrier grade, scalable platform for managing the
development and provisioning of location-based applications that rely on the ability to
manage in real-time the locations of million of mobile users. The Location Server is 100%
Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) compatible and offers a suite of individual enterprise
software components, designed to the Enterprise Java Bean (EJB) specification, that are
modular, rapidly deployable, and easily -continued- Gravitate Launches Developer Program -

developers, the Gravitate Location Server can be securely accessed via SOAP (Simple
Object Access Protocol), making the Gravitate's GDK compatible with any programming
language. Gravitate sells the Location Server as a carrier grade, scalable platform for
managing the real-time locations of millions of mobile users.
The Gravitate Location Server advanced capabilities are best displayed by its support of the
emerging mobile-to-mobile and static-to-mobile services. Through its integrated Client
Locator and User Discovery System (CLoUDS), the Gravitate Location Server allows
developers to integrate into the logic of any application the real-time location of millions of
subscribers and their proximity to each other or common point of interests. As a result,
CLoUDS can enable a wide variety of mobile-to-mobile applications, including professional
networking, instant messaging, mobile gaming and even dating. Another unique and
distinguishing feature of the Gravitate Location Server, offered through GXpert(tm), is the
ability to provide end users with total control over their time-and-location-privacy.
Additionally, GXpert(tm) is the world's only location services framework that allows a user to
create rules governing his visibility, on a per-application or global basis, and enable true
opt-in push based location services.
Developers facing the daunting task of how to begin interfacing with positioning systems will
be amazed by the ease with which the Gravitate Location Server framework guides the
creation of location based services that react, in real-time, to changes in a user's location.
