  • AOL Launches One-Stop Shopping and Resource Area for Consumers on the Go at Keyword: Wireless

Posted by WDN, October 23, 2001

New Wireless Store Provides Free Phone Offers and Unique Service Plans for Every Consumer
Interactive Features and Expert Tips Make it Easier and More Convenient to Access AOL Services From Mobile Phones and Other Devices

America Online, Inc. (NYSE:AOL), the world's leading interactive services company, today announced the launch of a one-stop shopping and content area for consumers to purchase wireless products and services. Now available for members at AOL Keyword: Wireless and on the Internet at www.aol.com/wireless, this new online resource makes it easy for everyone to find a phone and service plan that best meets their needs. In addition, AOL members will find tips about how to access popular AOL features while away from their computers, and to purchase other AOL Anywhere products and services.

"AOL is committed to making it as easy as possible for consumers to use their favorite AOL features and services in the wireless environment," said Lisa Hook, President of AOL Anywhere. "We know that 69% of AOL members own a cell phone or pager, and Keyword: Wireless gives them a resource to understand how to access popular AOL features such as e-mail and instant messaging on Internet-enabled phones and other wireless devices. The new area also provides a convenient and friendly way for people who don't have wireless devices to learn what's available in the marketplace and make secure purchases."

"In addition to providing consumers with extra value, the new Keyword: Wireless area will bring our partners added benefits as well. Not only will it enable them to sell phones, content and special applications that reside on the destination, it also will help them reach their target markets efficiently and to educate consumers about how to take advantage of the features available to them on Internet-enabled phones," said Jenna Fiorito, Vice President and GM, AOL Anywhere.

    Specifically, consumers will find:

-- Secure Online Shopping: The online store helps consumers research and then conveniently buy phones and service plans from leading handset manufacturers and wireless carriers -- right online. Consumers who enter the wireless store are offered a free phone after rebate when they purchase a service plan that is tailored to their geographic location.

Powered by AOL partner InPhonic, the store area provides consumers with a secure e-commerce platform. The wireless store's customer service, purchasing process and billing is covered by the AOL Certified Merchant Guarantee, assuring the best shopping experience possible.

-- Decision Guide: With the Decision Guide, consumers are walked through a short list of questions to help them find the calling plans and wireless phones that best suit their particular needs.

-- Rate Optimizer: For people who are thinking of changing their wireless service plan, the Rate Optimizer provides a simple, step-by-step process to analyze their current plan, and then provides alternative plans with lower monthly rates and/or better features.

-- Mobile Demonstrations: In order to help consumers make the most of their Internet-enabled wireless phones, these easy-to-follow online demonstrations teach them how to use wireless AOL e-mail and instant messaging, and show them how to use AOL's T9(R) Text Input Software, a quicker and easier method for typing on a phone's keypad.

Consumers can also learn how to access other AOL features including, news, weather, stock quotes, horoscopes and games, as well as content from various AOL Time Warner properties, including Digital City, MapQuest and Moviefone.
