  • Possio
  • Possio to launch Wireless Gateway between Bluetooth and WLAN at Comdex

Posted by WDN, October 26, 2001

Possio is to launch a new Wireless Gateway between Bluetooth and WLAN at the Comdex Fall 2001. The PX20 is a cost-effective and standardized solution that enables Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISP) to improve their infrastructure and to offer a wider, more varied and more accessible range of Internet-based services.

The PX20 creates new uses in new applications, in particular for industrial users. It gives easy, hassle-free access to the Internet and intranet via handheld computers, smart phones and other Bluetooth-equipped, battery-efficient devices. Users can synchronize their e-mail and data, control and monitor equipment, conduct their daily business, access streaming media such as video and radio, play network games, and so on. The cost is considerably lower and the bandwidth significantly larger than alternative connections via mobile networks.

WLAN has become increasingly popular in recent years at places of work and in so-called “hot-spots” such as airports, hotels, coffee shops and shopping malls. Wireless networks are also becoming more widespread in apartment blocks. Up to now, those who have benefited most from WLAN have been computer users. Now that the PX20 is extending those benefits to users of Bluetooth-enabled devices, the scope of wireless networks is expanding significantly.

Following intensive field tests in Sweden and other countries, Possio is launching the PX20 at Comdex in November as the first of a portfolio of products to be released this winter (2001-2002). The PX20 is a standardized and independent communications solution that combines Bluetooth and WLAN in a single device. It is battery-operated, wireless and flexible in its design, and is easy to configure for various environments and needs. The price will be similar to that of an exclusive WLAN access node.
