Subject: Re: MobileLBSList: mobile network protocols
Date:  07/03/2001 04:05:09 AM
From:  robert.cayzer@my.andersen.com

Hi,

I believe:
- WCDMA / FOMA wasn't launched yet in Japan at the time I wrote it... 2+ months
ago
- I did clearly say in that 30 second mail I was going to miss some (the message
was to show the breadth of bearers, not the depth). I also missed many others
including PHS in Thailand, Metricomm's ricochet, Tetra, DataTAC, W-CDMA in Isle
of Man, CDMA2000 1xRTT-3G in US and Korea, Boeing in the US...

cheers,
rob.c.

Not quite right! Japan also has PHS, and 3G (W-CDMA) running in a
commercial test phase to be phased in from this autumn. Alltogether
there are at least 5-7 different mobile networks with different
operation principles operating in Japan, depending on how you count them.
