Hi Alistair and others,
why would you stick to just entering administrative data in the app when you can also store the actual location where the dengue breakout took place?! With ESRI's ArcPad you can design custom input forms for easy and fast data collection and you can point out the location on the map of the environment where you currently are. Additionally, you could connect a GPS to retrieve your current location automatically, though this is not necessary. You can always check out more info on this at: www.esri.com/arcpad
Hope this helps you. Good luck!
Regards,

G'day all,
Can anyone recommend an application/organisation that will allow me to create a database for PocketPC/ PalmOS and sync it with Access 97 on the Desktop?
This does not have to be a wireless application - too expensive!
I would be intersted in hearing from app. developers about this because it may?? involve some additional programming.
Background: My name is Alistair Hart from Queensland Health (State Government Agency) in Australia. We deal with Dengue Fever (a mosquito borne disease) and are examining Pocket PC's/PalmOrganizers as a data collection tool for our field workers during outbreak conditions. We currently have a comprehensive relational Access 97 (SR2) database which we would like to sychronise with a(ny) database on Pocket PC/PalmOrganizers.
The ultimate goal being to save time over paper data collection because no 2nd entry into desktop in Office and also better data integrity/quality - from less human error. We also want to be able to access the information the same day (but not at real time - too expensive) for querying and preparation of the next days mozzie control work (ie: return from field, sync data and then query it in Access on the desktop ready for mapping).
Thanks for your time, Alistair Hart Vector Control Officer Dengue Action Response Team Tropical Public Health Unit Qld Health Cairns, Qld, Australia alistair_hart@health.qld.gov.au
