Subject: Re: Wireless Dev: WAP unique identifier
Date:  06/15/2000 07:52:11 AM
From:  Bryan Morgan

It is phone.com-specific. Alot of different groups are very concerned about
the privacy issues involved with mobile applications so I would be surprised
to see many other vendors step up and include this feature.

It's a complicated issue which I find very interesting. Obviously, being
able to check these "phone ids" would be very useful from a server-side
point of view. It seems like they could build a capability into the
microbrowsers that allow you to turn this off...kind of like you can turn
off cookies now in traditional browsers. In addition, to the phone number
being sent as part of the HTTP header, I think it's just a matter of time
before some type of spatial coordinates are broadcast as well (lat/long,
etc.). Again, you should be able to turn this off if you so desired.
