Subject: Re: MobileLBSList: Interfacing To MPC
Date:  09/19/2000 10:47:32 PM
From:  Geoff Hendrey

I'll bet I have spent more time than anyone out there playing with the MLC emulators from
ericsson than anybody out there. They have done a great job documenting and providing an
emulator. I have also used visual net to generate movement patterns, the whole 9 yards. I
even integrated the entire thing with a mapping demo on mobile phone and geocoded yellow
pages.

the big problem is that these emulators don't address the CRITICAL real world isssue of how
do I get a username and a password of a user. There is no access control in this system.
registering a user consists of writing his username and password into a local file.

What I am REALLY interested in is what the MPC emulators do not address:
1 - authentication and security
2- "whitepage" lookup - how, in the REAL WORLD, do I know what MLC to contact. Consider that
Ericsson is one of about 15 companies building locating technology. What STANDARD is being
developed so I can determine what MLC from what manufacturer can actually locate a
particular phone number?

Please weigh in on this if you have a hunch!!!
