Is this yet more hype, or will MMS overshadow SMS?
Paul,
I think it is more hype. I have no doubt that MMS will be a very succesful application, but I don´t believe it will overshadow SMS.
MMS will be used for some special messages, when you want to send a photo, or a birthday card, or anything like this, but SMS will keep being used for ordinary text communications.
Many years ago e-mail started as a text only application. Now you can put multimedia in e-mail messages but, in our ordinary mail, which is the percentage of messages you write using multimedia. I think the same idea applies to SMS and MMS.
That´s my opinion, but I would also like to hear some more views...

I have just read this in an article in 3G Mobile
"As the launch of MMS gathers pace in Europe and Asia, Ericsson last week outlined a rosy picture for the likely uptake of the service. MMS will be "larger than SMS" in terms of the number of messages sent in 2005, according to Per Lindblad, head of Ericsson's MMS."
At IBC's MMS Congress last year, there were varying forecasts, but none were this bold.
Is this yet more hype, or will MMS overshadow SMS?
I'd be interested to hear some views
Thanks
