Subject: RE: MobileLBSList: MMS bigger than SMS?
Date:  06/25/2002 10:42:33 AM
From:  Lee J. Raguz

MobileLBSList,

I question whether people really think WAP was a success. Here in the USA,
WAP is at best a marketing failure unless you just want to get a stock price
or send a very short message.

The viable use of SMS/MMS will not happen until USA carriers offer better
data rates and bigger screen sizes with color and services like automotive
telematics gets a foothold. This is happening very slowly.

Citrix (www.citrix.com) seems to be poised to capitalize on their efforts in
thin client/thin network functionality since they are already dominant in
this space. Moving to wireless is a natural progression for Citrix and they
bring along a powerful and convincing solution that is already clean and
fully debugged.

Citrix has a new product called Citrix NFuse Elite that also looks
promising. The big question is can Citrix make the metamorphosis from a
traditional Client-Server Enterprise company to a Wireless Client-Server
Enterprise/Embedded company. I sure hope so cause their software IP is
really solid.

I do see legacy SMS being very useful in wireless telemetry applications
permitting machine-to-machine communications. A good example would be
wireless SNMP which can be achieved quite easily using SMS now.

Best regards,

Lee J. Raguz
