I have to go with the MMS as being the upside of SMS - sort of like TXT messages versus HTML. If you love SMS you'll soon have to have MMS. I use SMS almost daily here in Australia as I build my house. I would love to be able to directly email a digital photo of variance from plan to both the contractor and architect.
I have noticed that the crew all have cell phones and the ones on pre-paid phone time do far more SMS than I. At $0.20 per message versus $1.20 per minute for voice it simply make them cents. In this case being "all thumbs" means you are a head of the curve.
Have also noticed that the MMS thing is coming fast and heavy via advertisements as may regard lifestyle choices. Marketing at its fullest. Myself, I am actively looking for anything that resembles a "photo phone"... four models so far I have located but not quite yet buy.... "Stop in next week." Having been on the photo phone quest for nearly a month, I can confirm that when you find one you can be pretty assured that is also has all the other "stuff" as well.

Well my opinion on MMS & SMS is simply that SMS w'd be BREAD and MMS w'd be BUTTER in days to come. And a conglomeration of the two w'd definetely lead to exciting services. However market for MMS and users of MMS w'd be limited to a certain band of people and w'd not be so common due to cumbersome handsets and cost issues.
Thanks.

I have just read this in an article in 3G Mobile
"As the launch of MMS gathers pace in Europe and Asia, Ericsson last week outlined a rosy picture for the likely uptake of the service. MMS will be "larger than SMS" in terms of the number of messages sent in 2005, according to Per Lindblad, head of Ericsson's MMS."
At IBC's MMS Congress last year, there were varying forecasts, but none were this bold.
Is this yet more hype, or will MMS overshadow SMS?
I'd be interested to hear some views
Thanks
