Also, Gartner produced a report last week which showed that less than 1% of INTERNET users in the US (the biggest market) are actually using e-commerce. So, the chances of them using m-commerce which has a much lower penetration rate is pretty low.

You need to keep in mind that today:
80% of the world's mobile internet users are in Japan and 12% of the world's mobile internet users are in Korea.
Therefore any study about mcommerce restricted to US and Europe is studying only 8% of today's mobile internet users.
One could argue that these 8% might not be representative of what's going to come in mcommerce in the future, because these 8% are concentrated in those areas of the world where the wireless internet uptake is very slow due to various factors. These same factors also might bias any report studying the behavior of these 8%.
On the other hand in Japan and Korea - where you have 92% of the world's wireless internet users today - the wireless internet uptake is very strong, and the technical systems and business models in place are different.
My personal opinion is that the behavior of approx. 23 million wireless internet users in Japan & Korea is more predictive about what's going to happen in Europe and USA in the future, then the 2 to 3 million _active_ users you have in Europe and USA now.
... just my 2 cents.
