Subject: MobileLBSList: MapInHand and MapXtend - the Professional choice?
Date:  12/30/2000 02:28:34 PM
From:  Neil Havermale

Saw this today and suddenly discovered what we need to be focusing on.....

The word is out that in this case MapInfo and its Oracle 8i PDA technology
is a year ahead of ESRI and the others for 2.5G+ infrastructure and mobile
mapping. Also I heard that the fastest growth for the under 25 crowd over
Japan's DoCoMo are phones with cameras for wireless instant photography!
Next will be spatial photos.

Kirvan Pierson, MapInfo's Beijing-based territory manager for the greater
China region, said: "When you know where somebody is, and what's around
them, you can tailor and offer services personalized for them." AT&T, Sprint
and MCI of the United States, Australia's Telstra, Japan's NTT DoCoMo, and
all five of Britain's mobile-service operators are using MapInfo's
Java-based solutions, but there are no telecoms companies providing
location-based services in Hong Kong or greater China.
Happy New Year
