I think by "Next Generation", he meant WAP 1.2 and beyond, under which WAP
will undergo some major changes. The terms 2.5/3G refer to communications
infrastructure upgrades which will take considerably longer than 4-6
months...more like 3-5 years for the U.S.

I agree with your assessment of large corporations by the way.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), unlike the
Internet, the carriers own the networks so the rules for the mobile Internet
will be much different than those of its wired counterpart.
