Subject: RE: MobileLBSList: mobile network protocols
Date:  05/02/2001 05:36:43 AM
From:  Sandeep Hundal

well japan has the wap protocol and the i-mode system running side by side,
if thats what yuo mean, but somehow i don't think so :)

america though has 4 competing networks, gsm (by omnitel i think), cdma,
tdma and something else. their idea was that the market would decide which
protocol was the best (economically), with the result that its hard for
people in one network to speak to another.

the rest of the world is either standardised on gsm, or pdp (japan).
