Hello to all of the newcomers on the list. The topic here will revolve
around the technologies and development issues of wireless location-based
services. We added the "Mobile" onto the list name because, to our friends
from the GIS field, everything is a location-based service! :-) I hesitate
to ask everyone to introduce themselves because it can result in 100
messages the first day. Nevertheless, if you consider yourself to be an
industry expert in any area (I've looked at the subscribers and know that
several experts are on here), feel free to make yourself known!
Our goal is to make this the premier forum for the discussion of mobile
commerce and location apps. Both sites combined have over 150,000 unique
visitors per month from the wireless and GIS industries so if we can't make
this work, noone can! I'd like to propose a simple convention that will
help develop a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document for all newcomers.
Anyone that wants to propose a Frequently Asked Question should include
"FAQ:" in their subject line. We'll compile all of the replies to these
questions into a document that we'll host. If your reply is chosen, we'll
credit you in the FAQ...therefore guaranteeing you a bit of immortality
(Hey...something's better than nothing!)
I'll start things off with a basic question:
* What are some current examples of location-based services and what can we
expect in the near future?
