Hello,
I would like to give an example of application as feed back to Bryan's "Greetings + FAQ" message. I don't know if this kind of application is already running somewhere. Most likely it will be available in the near future.
A WAP device (i.e. GSM) accesses a web site that hosts a "find nearest location" application.
Using "cell information data" the web application can find out the cell where the WAP device accessed the GSM network. Also using a dedicated algorithm the web application locates the WAP device within the area covered by the cell with a precision of 100 meters (or even 50 meters).
Having gathered all this information about the WAP device, the application can now answer various types of questions: - what are the closest 3 restaurants - how do I get from my location to the railway station X - etc.
The answer can be sent back to the WAP device either in text format or in graphic format (map).
Best regards,
