Subject: MobileLBSList: RE: Rookie question - 911 Positional Accuracy
Date:  05/23/2001 02:57:33 AM
From:  Mai The Netherlands (ETM)

Hi Neil,

This is what the FCC Enhanced-911 describes to the operators :

Operators have to provide location information with emergency calls in October 2001

Handset based solution
- 50 meter accuracy for 67% of calls
- 150 meter accuracy for 95% of calls

Network based solution
- 100 meter accuracy for 67% of calls
- 300 meter accuracy for 95% of calls

And you don't need 2.5 or 3 G technology to use Positioning on your GSM handset. A GSM network is OK. With the 2.5 and 3 G technologies and handsets you can use (and build) much more attractive applications!

More information and a downloadable Mobile Positioning SDK can be found on http://www.ericsson.com/developerzone (Joining the Developerzone is for free!!)

Succes and all the best,

Gijs Piscaer.

I am very interested in the accuracy of the 911 position as well as how it
may be triggered. Could it time interval trigger or after some distance or
?

I understand to believe that the 2.5 and 3.0G technology is useful by GSM
handsepts?

Neil
